Settle in with sedation options

Are you nervous about the dentist? Maybe you’ve put it off for years, or even decades. You aren’t the only one. We understand that many patients walk in feeling anxious. Along with a calm, judgment-free environment, we offer safe sedation options to help you relax comfortably in the chair. Let us know when you schedule your appointment, and we’ll recommend what makes the most sense for you.

The benefits of sedation

It’s safe

Sedation is carefully planned and monitored throughout your visit. Your health history is reviewed beforehand to ensure everything is appropriate for you.

It’s effective

Sedation helps reduce anxiety so you can receive the care you need without feeling overwhelmed. Many patients are surprised by how manageable their appointment feels.

It’s versatile

Whether you need a routine cleaning or more involved treatment, sedation can be adjusted to match the level of support you’re looking for.

Our treatments

Composite fillings

Tooth decay doesn’t always require extensive treatment. When caught early, composite (tooth-colored) fillings restore strength while blending naturally with your smile. We remove decay conservatively and rebuild the area with durable material designed to match your enamel. Because composite fillings bond directly to the tooth, they help reinforce the remaining structure rather than simply filling a space.

Nitrous oxide

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)

Laughing gas is a gentle, fast-acting form of sedation. You’ll breathe it in through a small mask, and within minutes you’ll feel more relaxed while still fully awake and responsive. One of the benefits is that the effects wear off quickly once the mask is removed, so you can typically drive yourself home afterward.

Oral conscious sedation

Oral conscious sedation

Oral conscious sedation is a stronger option for patients who feel significant anxiety. You’ll take a prescribed medication before your appointment, allowing you to feel deeply relaxed while remaining awake and able to respond to instructions. Many patients remember very little about their procedure afterward. Because this form of sedation lingers longer, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment. We’ll give you clear instructions beforehand so you feel prepared.

The sedation process

1

Start with a conversation

Before anything is scheduled, we’ll talk about how you’ve felt at past dental visits. Whether your anxiety is mild or more significant, that helps us recommend the right level of support. We’ll also review your health history to make sure sedation is appropriate for you.

2

Choose the right option

Not everyone needs the same type of sedation. Some patients do well with nitrous oxide, while others prefer oral conscious sedation for deeper relaxation. We’ll explain what each option involves so you feel comfortable with the plan before your appointment.

3

Day of your visit

If you’re using nitrous oxide, we’ll place a small mask over your nose and adjust it gradually until you feel relaxed. For oral conscious sedation, you’ll take your prescribed medication before arriving, and we’ll monitor you closely throughout your procedure. Your comfort and safety are always our priority.

4

After your appointment

Nitrous oxide wears off quickly, and most patients can resume normal activities right away. Oral conscious sedation takes longer to wear off, so you’ll need a trusted adult to drive you home. We’ll review clear aftercare instructions so you know exactly what to expect.

The absolute BEST in the area. If you need any sort of dental work done, this is the place to be. Dr. Ingy is AWESOME, and the staff are extremely welcoming. Had a surgical tooth extraction done that was meant to be tough, but was seamless and most importantly, painless! Bayville Dental Arts is the place to be!!

Had a fantastic experience at this practice - from the front office, dental assistant, and the dentist. Everyone was so nice; I left in a better mood than when I came in! Highly recommend!
